Teen Patti Star: Pure Sequence vs Normal Sequence Differences

Sequence hands appear all the time on Teen Patti Star, and the difference between Pure Sequence and Normal Sequence is one of the most frequently tested rules during showdowns. A Pure Sequence always beats a regular Sequence, even if the regular sequence’s card ranks look stronger. New players lose countless pots because they mix these two hand categories up. This guide defines both hands, gives examples and clarifies how they rank and tie-break.

Both Pure Sequence and Normal Sequence require three consecutive card ranks. Valid rank runs include A-2-3, Q-K-A, 10-J-Q, 5-6-7. Note that A-K-2 is not a valid sequence on Teen Patti Star. The Ace cannot wrap between King and Two to form a run. This rule applies to both pure and normal sequences.

The defining difference is suit:

Pure Sequence: Three consecutive ranks, **all same suit**. No mismatched suits. Example: 9♠ 10♠ J♠, A♥ 2♥ 3♥, Q♦ K♦ A♦. This is the second strongest hand in classic Teen Patti, beaten only by Trail.

Normal Sequence (Impure Sequence): Three consecutive ranks, mixed suits. Example: 9♠ 10♥ J♦. The suits do not match, so it drops down one rank in the hand hierarchy. A normal sequence loses to any pure sequence, but beats Colour, Pair and High Card.

Tie-breaker rules work the same way for both types. When two Pure Sequences face each other, the sequence with the highest top rank wins. A-K-Q pure sequence is the strongest pure sequence, followed by A-2-3, then K-Q-J, Q-J-10 and downwards. Normal sequences tie-break using exactly the same rank order. Pure sequences only compare against other pure sequences; normal sequences only compare against other normal sequences. They never tie against each other because they belong to different hand categories.

This is the critical rule: A lower-ranked Pure Sequence beats a higher-ranked Normal Sequence. For example, A-2-3 Pure Sequence beats K-Q-J Normal Sequence. Many beginners look only at the card ranks and assume the King-high run wins, which is wrong. Suit uniformity is the category separator and matters more than rank strength.

How this works in Joker Mode and AK47: Jokers can help you build sequences, but the pure rule still applies. After substituting the joker, all three final cards must be same suit and consecutive to count as Pure Sequence. If substitution leaves mixed suits, it is only a normal sequence.

Common mistakes:

- Thinking A-K-2 counts as a sequence. It does not.

- Comparing a pure sequence and normal sequence by rank only.

- Believing suit colour (red or black) affects tie-breakers. Suit colour does not change hand strength on Teen Patti Star default tables.

- Confusing Colour with Pure Sequence: Colour is same suit but non-consecutive, so it loses to any sequence.

Recognising Pure and Normal Sequence correctly is essential for making Show, Sideshow and raise decisions. Whenever you make a sequence, first check the suits. Same suit = premium pure sequence. Mixed suits = solid but beatable normal sequence. This simple check will stop you from making costly misjudgments at showdown.
